Perimenopause & menopause care with a female GP

Time to talk through your symptoms, your options and a plan that suits you, from the first changes of perimenopause onwards.

Perimenopause can begin years before your periods stop, and its symptoms are often missed or put down to stress. Dr Sweety Syed takes the time to listen, explain what's happening and work through options with you, then reviews how things are going.

Lifestyle, bone and heart health are part of every plan

Symptoms we can help with

  • Hot flushes & night sweats
  • Irregular or heavy periods
  • Poor sleep
  • Mood changes & anxiety
  • Brain fog
  • Low libido
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Joint aches

Your menopause consultation

Book a longer appointment so there's time to cover your symptoms, periods, medical and family history, and what matters most to you. Dr Sweety may suggest blood tests to rule out other causes, along with a blood pressure check, cervical and breast screening if they're due, and a look at bone and heart health.

Treatment options

Menopausal hormone therapy (MHT)

For many women MHT is the most effective treatment for hot flushes and night sweats. Dr Sweety will explain the benefits and risks as they apply to you, the different types (patches, gels, tablets and the Mirena IUD), and help you decide whether it's right for you.

Non-hormonal options

Non-hormonal medicines, vaginal treatments, and practical advice on sleep, exercise, nutrition and weight, plus referral to a dietitian, physiotherapist, psychologist or menopause specialist when helpful.

Ongoing review

Follow-up to see how treatment is working and adjust it, with regular review of your overall health.

Dr Sweety consults at Medicross Brygon Medical Centre, Upper Coomera and Runaway Bay Medical & Dental, and sees patients from Coomera, Pimpama, Oxenford, Hope Island, Helensvale, Runaway Bay, Labrador and across the Gold Coast.

Common questions

Can a GP prescribe menopausal hormone therapy?

Yes. GPs commonly assess and prescribe MHT. Dr Sweety will talk through whether it suits you, the options available, and the benefits and risks.

Do I need a blood test to diagnose menopause?

Often not. Menopause is usually diagnosed from your age and symptoms, but blood tests can help in some situations or rule out other causes.

What age does perimenopause start?

Usually in your 40s, though it can start earlier. Symptoms can begin several years before your last period.

Should I book a long appointment for menopause?

Yes, a longer appointment is recommended for a first menopause consultation. Mention it when you book.
